like fred clause came out on november and the dvd came out like a year later! and ELF too!

They do that because the movie is Christmas oriented. Most people don’t tend to watch/buy Christmas oriented movies, say in the middle of summer. This is strategic on the movie studios end to make more money. More people will buy/rent the movies about Christmas, at Christmas time.
