In-Laws, The
|
IMDB rating: 6.50 Plot: When prospective fathers-in-law Steve Tobias and Jerry Peyser meet for the first time to celebrate their children’s upcoming marriage, the cake hits the fan. Dr. Jerome Peyser is a mild-mannered podiatrist with a well-organized daily routine designed to eliminate all possible sources of stress. Meanwhile, daredevil CIA operative Steve Tobias moves through life like a heat-seeking missile. His average day consists of dodging bullets, stealing private jets and negotiating with international arms smugglers. Now he’s giving potential father-of-the-bride Jerry a serious case of pre-nuptial jitters. Steve’s dramatic entrances and exits, his cryptic references to a Russian runaway named Olga and his fight with a gunman in a restaurant washroom causes Jerry to see a vision of his daughter’s perfectly planned wedding blowing up in his face. As far as Jerry’s concerned, letting Steve into his family takes til death do us part way too literally. Before he can say the wedding is off, Jerry suddenly finds himself embroiled in the chaos that follows in Steve’s wake as he is dragged kicking and screaming into a series of perilous adventures that take the mismatched in-laws-to-be halfway around the world. |

I broke the cardinal rule of trust, skepticism ensues?
Here it is: I read her text messages from a sketchy night.
Background:
I have been dating this girl for 4 months, but feel as if we have known each other forever. Both in school, me in undergrad, and she is in law school. The difference in age (4 years) was no factor for both of us because we hit it off from the get go extremely well. She has an ex-boyfriend who she used to not be able to stand, but seems to be building a friendship with, or so I thought. I am not a jealous person but as of lately we have grown somewhat distant from each other, and have been arguing lately about how we both want to keep our lives together and have our own lives.
I read her text messages from New Years, which was a night we weren’t together during, and we had spoken to briefly. I saw where she sent her ex a text saying "we need to talk tomorrow" at 3 am, and another of her friend Liza asking if she was "okay about Greg (ex) and Rob (me)" to which she replies "yea, just didn’t want anyone thinking I was going home with Greg." I cannot help but confront the situation, in a constructive and non-accusatory way, tonight when we are both home. I want to tell his d-bag Greg to back off, but if she wants to become friends with her ex Greg I will have to live with that.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to approach this situation? Do you think I should tell her I read her messages? Thanks in advance…. -Rob
